There are measures which can be taken at a personal and community level to prevent the occurrence of a disease.

Public measures:

• Sewage and chemical wastes should not be released into water bodies.
• Sewage should be chemically treated first, before being released into water bodies.
• Garbage must be kept covered, otherwise flies breed on it.
• All drains must be covered.
• Do not allow water to stagnate near your house.
• Pipes carrying potable water should not be located near the sewage pipelines. In case of leakage, the waters get mixed and contaminated.

Personal measures:

• Eat balanced diet.      
• Include seasonal fruits and vegetables in your diet.
• Cook the food properly.
• Wash the vegetables and the fruits before eating.
• Avoid too much frying of vegetables. It reduces their nutritional value.
