Four major areas of discrimination against girls and women in India are:

1. Lineage line: In India, it is largely believed that the lineage of the family is carried only through the male heir. Hence, the girl child is ignored.
2. Education: In rural areas, education of boys is preferred and that of the girls is neglected. Since men are considered to the bread earners, high priority is given to their education. Girls are considered to be home maker and thus they are expected to excel in house hold work.
3. Nutrition: In many rural and urban families, boys are given good and nutritious food as they are the bread earners and the family life is traced to them. However, no significant attention is provided to the food intake of the girls and women.
4. Discrimination on the place of work: Many cases in the urban areas have come into limelight which shows that women are discriminated at work places. Since men suffer from the superiority complex, it is believed that women cannot be good administrators and managers unlike men.
