Write a short note on the size and density of population in India.
According to the census of 2011, the population of India had crossed the one billion mark. Although India has only 2.4% of the world’s area, it accounts for 16.7% of the population.
The population density of India in 2011 was 364 persons per sq km. Within India, the population density is highly uneven. While the state of West Bengal has a population density of 904 persons per sq km, Arunachal Pradesh has a population density of only 12 persons per sq km.
