Subject: Adding hobby classes to academia

Sir,

My name is Amit T and I am a student in one of the public schools in the vicinity. I write this letter to bring to bring to the notice of the readers the lack of extra-curricular activities in my school. 

Our school is one of the most well-known institutions in the city offering the best possible education to deserving students. However, a week ago when my cousin came over to visit us, I realised that my school does not offer any extra-curricular activities. 

A couple of years ago, we used to have free periods twice a week where we were allowed to play sports or learn a hobby. Many of us learnt to make items out of waste products, candles, handmade soaps, and even basic home mechanics. However, in the past year, all our sports coaches left the school one by one, followed by hobby periods being given away to teachers to complete the syllabus. At present, we are burdened with a lot of homework, projects, and have no place to play or learn a new hobby. 

The school has converted the playground into a parking lot and the recreational areas have been turned into storerooms. Most hobbies help in developing our skills and building confidence to, which reduces helps us make new friends and reduce stress. 

I think your newspaper is the best medium to bring to light how unfair the management decisions have been on the student population. What is happening in one school can soon become a trend throughout the schools in the city, and soon we will be raising a generation of inactive, dull people.

I request you to publish my take on the fast disappearing playgrounds and recreational areas from school before it is too late to mend.
