  1. Military functions:
    1. He is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of India.
    2. According to certain rules and regulations, he appoints the Chiefs of the three wings of the Armed Forces.
    3. He can make Declarations on War and Peace on the advice of the Council of Ministers.

    4. To present the Annual Financial Statement before the Parliament at the beginning of every financial year
    5. To constitute a finance commission every five years
    6. To authorise the withdrawal of advances from the Contingency Fund of India to meet the unforeseen expenses faced by the country
  2. Judiciary functions:
    1. He is not answerable to any court of law for the exercise of the powers and duties of his office.
    2. During his tenure, no criminal suit can be initiated against him.
    3. He is given the power to grant pardon, to remit or suspend a sentence or punishment on an appeal for mercy.
