  1. The Early Nationalist believed in the British sense of justice and fair play. They therefore, put their faith in the solemn promises made by the British government that Home Rule would be granted to India in due time. As a result, though the Early Nationalists wanted Home Rule, no agitation was launched for it for a long time.
  2. The following are the economic reforms demanded by the Early Nationalists:
    • Reduction in land revenue and protection of peasants against the zamindars.
    • Reduction in defense expenditure and investment of money thus saved for welfare activities like health and education.
    • To set up an inquiry into the repeated occurrence of famines and the growing poverty of India
    • To make the facility of cheap credit available to peasants through various agricultural banks.
    • To develop and provide efficient banking, medical and health facilities to the people.
    • To ensure Industrial growth through trade protection.
    • To abolish Salt Tax and duty on sugar
  1. The following were the important administrative reforms demanded by the Early Nationalists:
    • To hold the Indian Civil Service Exams in India also so that Indian citizens may also appear for exams.  
    • Complete separation of the executive and judicial branches of the government.
    • Empowerment of the local/municipal bodies and reduction of official control over them.
    • To revoke the Arms Act and the License Act.
    • Increase in the employment of Indians in higher grades of administrative services.

- To spread of primary education among the masses.

- Police reforms.
