Basic industry is an important industry on which other industries depend for their machinery and other products. For example, iron and steel industry is a basic industry because its finished product is steel. Steel is used for making machinery which helps other industries like automobile and textile industries in manufacturing various goods and commodities. 
 
Consumer industry process the basic raw materials and its finished products are dirctly used by consumers. For example white sugar manufactured by sugar industry is directly consumed by the consumers.
