CBSE Class 12-science Answered
Why we multiply 100 when we converting the power of a lens into the focal length

Expert Answer
Power of a lens of focal length f is defined as 1/f , where f is expressed in metre. Unit of power of lens is Diopter (D)
Example:- let us assume the focal length of convex lens is 40 cm.
Then Power = 100/40 = +2.5 D
we multiply 1/40 by 100 in the above example, because we are converting the focal length used in the denominator from centimetre to metre.
