Why the sex of the child depends on the sperm?

In humans there are 23 pairs of chromosomes in each cell out of which one pair is of sex chromosomes. XX in females and XY in males. So females produce one type of ovum (having X chromosome, while males produce two types of sperms 50% having X chromosome and 50% having Y chromosome. So it solely depends on the chromosome the sperm is carrying at the time of fertilization. Therefore, the sex of the child depends on the sperm.
