Why O2 is paramagnetic ,as its bond order =2.

The atomic orbitals of the O atoms overlap to form sigma and pi orbitals of the O2 molecule as shown in the diagram above.
Twelve valence electrons have been added according to Afbau's principle.
The last two electrons get added to separate degenerate pi orbitals according to Hund's rule.
Thus, oxygen ahs two unpaired electrons and is paramagnetic.
