ICSE Class 10 Answered
Why mineral ions are absorbed by active transport?
Asked by Topperlearning User | 04 Jun, 2014, 01:23: PM
Expert Answer
Following are the reasons of active transport of mineral ions:
1. Cell membrane of root hairs is a semi permeable membrane so it does not allow solute particles to pass through it.
2. For continuous endosmosis of water in roots it is necessary to maintain high concentration of minerals inside the cell. So active transport takes place against the concentration gradient from low to high concentration by using energy in the form of ATP.
