Lok Sabha is known as the Lower House even after having the upper hand in the Parliament because India follows the Westminster system wherein Lok Sabha is equivalent to the House of Commons while Rajya Sabha is equivalent to the House of Lords. Also, the members of the Lok Sabha are elected directly by the people of India while the members of Rajya Sabha are people with intellectual minds, renowned social workers, people having special knowledge or practical experience in matters of literature, social science, science and art.
The members of the Lok Sabha are elected directly by the people of India through democratic elections.
