Why is the atmosphere very dense near the surface of the earth?

If speed of gas molecules on earth surface or atmosphere is greater than the escape velocity, then gas molecues will escape.
Escape velocity on earh surface is 11.2 km/hr.
Kinetic speed of gas molecules at the temperature of earths surface and atmosphere is less than escape velocity.
Hence heavier gas molecules like O2, N2 and CO2 are present in atmosphere, where as lighter molecules like hydrogen and
Helium are present in insignificant amount in atmosphere
