RESPIRATION

1. Occurs in chloroplasts

1. Occurs in cytoplasm/mitochondria

2. Occurs only in the presence of chlorophyll

2. Occurs in all living cells

3. Occurs only in the presence of light

3. Occurs continuously at all times

4. Utilizes carbon dioxide and water

4. Utilizes oxygen and glucose

5. Oxygen is released as an end product

5. Carbon dioxide is released as an end product

6. Light energy is converted into chemical energy and stored

6. Chemical energy is partly converted into heat and partly into useful energy for various activities

7. Results in gain in weight

7. Results in loss in weight

8. Food (glucose manufactured); Constructive anabolic process

8. Food (glucose broken down/oxidized); Destructive catabolic process

9. Occurs only in plants and few bacteria

9. Occurs in all living organisms

10. Produces ATP by the use of light energy

10. Produces AP by the oxidation of glucose

11. NADP is reduced to NADPH2,  using hydrogen from the water molecule

11. NAD is reduced  to NADH , using  hydrogen  from  carbohydrates or food material

12. ATP and NADPH2 are mainly used for the synthesis of organic compounds

12. NADH and ATP are used for cellular functions
