The pendulum may not be used for time measurement for the following reasons:

- The string used in pendulum should not have any change in its length while moving. However, all strings, do get a minute change in their lengths as they are extended gradually, with time. This will yield into incorrect measurement of time.
- The pendulum is supposed to move perfectly in one plane. This situation is also very difficult to maintain for a pendulum, becasue in normal conditions, due to air disturbance the pendulum may move conically, thus, disturbing the accuracy of time.
