Expert Answer
Chandragupta Maurya is regarded as the first unifier of India because he not only conquered almost the entire country but also most of the present day Afghanistan. His empire extended form Kabul and Kandahar in the north-west to Mysore in the south and from Bengal in the east to Saurashtra in the west. It was for the first time that the country was under one empire and a strong central administration was established.
