Expert Answer
The vein starting from the stomach and intestine enter the liver and combine to form hepatic portal vein. In order to maintain the normal concentration of nutrients (for example, glucose) and to prohibit circulation of toxic substance in the body, the liver stores the excess amount of nutrients, deaminates proteins and detoxify toxic substances from the blood. Therefore, hepatic portal system is an important part of our circulatory system.
