why He2 cannot exist on the basis of MO theory?

Answer:
Let us find the reason by understanding the difference between the formation of H2 and He2 molecule.
The atomic number of the H is 1 hence has 1 valence electron 
whereas the He atom has 2 valence electrons.
If draw MOT diagram :

For H2:

 

Bond order = Bonding electrons - antibonding electrons

                                                2

                 = 2-0

                     2

           

                 = 1

 

Hence H2 molecule exists with a single bond

 

For He2:

 

Bond order = Bonding electrons - antibonding electrons

                                                2

            = 2-2

                 2

           

            = 0

Hence He2 molecule does not exist because of zero bond order.
