why even though cobalt(II) is stable it oxidises in the presence of complexing agents

Cobalt(II) is stable in aqueous solution but in the presence of complexing reagents it is easily oxidised. :- Cobalt(III) solution has a great tendency to form complex.Therefore in the presence of ligands Cobalt(II) is oxidized to Cobalt(III).
