Why does the process gets hypotonic or hypertonic only when the cell is placed inside a sugar solution and not in glucose solution?

- The hypotonic and hypertonic are two conditions and not the processes.
- A hypotonic condition, the solution outside the cell has a lower solute concentration than the fluids inside the cell.
- In hypertonic condition, the solution outside the cell has higher solute concentration than the fluids inside the cell.
- Irrespective of the type of solution, when cells is placed in such conditions, based on the principle of osmosis, the water molecules will either move in or out of the cell until the concentration of water molecules become equal on either sides of the cell.
- Hence, even a cell is placed in a glucose solution or a salt solution, the process of osmosis will occur.
