why does alcohols react as nucleophiles and electrophiles?

Alcohol R-OH behaves both as electrophile and nucleopile. If the RO-H bond breaks it produces RO- and H+. So, alcohol behaves as nucleophile.
If R-OH bond breaks, it produces R+ and OH-. So, alcohol behaves aa an electrophile.
