Why does a tuning fork has 2 prongs??

A tuning fork works on the principle of vibration.
If the fork has one prong, then the vibration of the prong dissipates quickly to the handle of the fork and to the hand.
So, in order to have a perfect balance and equilibrium the prong should have two prongs.
In this way the vibration set up in one prong transfers to the other and vice versa.
