Force always acts in pairs:
  • The best law to support the above theory is Newton's third law of motion.
  • It states that ' to every action (force) there is an equal and opposite reaction (reactive force)'.
  • This indicates that there is atleast one reaction to the applied force that makes a pair of forces.

        Example:
  • When we roll a ball down the hill, even though no one actually stops the ball, the ball ultimately stops rolling and comes to rest.
  • This happens because the force of friction acts continuously against the motion of the ball and brings the ball to rest.
  • Here the two forces acting in a pair were gravitational force (for pulling the ball down the hill) and frictional force (for bringing the ball to rest).

Consequential Forces:
  • Consequential forces are the resultant force or an outcome of the force which is applied to the concerned body.
  • The best example of a consequential force is frictional force.
  • Frictional force arises due to a body which is moving or tends to move over another body, wherein both the bodies are in contact.
