Forest are conserved in areas not fit for cultivation because if the area is suitable for cultivation, then farmers would clear that piece of land for growing crops and vegetation. The areas which are not fit for cultivation, the cost of growing crops will be high as fertilisers and other inputs will be required on large scale to increase the productivity. Thus, in such areas (not fit for cultivation) the forests are not cut down and are preserved.
