Expert Answer
Some reasons for the failure of the 1857 uprisings were:
- The war effort of Indians did not have a common plan of military action.
- There was not any able centralized leadership. The uprisings took place in different, distant parts of the country and were completely uncoordinated.
- The rebels had no common goal before them except for their anti-foreign sentiments.
- The British had far superior resources at their command in terms of men, money and material.
- The revolt mainly spread in northern and central parts of the country. Southern and western India remained unaffected.
