Expert Answer
Initially, Aurangzeb followed the policy of friendship with the Rajputs. This changed when the ruler of Marwar, Jaswant Singh, died without leaving any male heir. However, posthumously a son, Ajit Singh, was born to him. Aurangzeb interfered and refused to recognise Ajit Singh as a legal heir to the throne. The Rajputs protested against the interference of Aurangzeb. The latter angrily marched into Marwar and occupied Jodhpur. As a result, several Rajput leaders such as Durga Das and Raj Singh took up arms against Aurangzeb.
