The Civil Disobedience Movement had given enough hint to the British that it was not possible for the colonial establishment to suppress Indian nationalism much longer. The failure of the Round Table Conferences had further buttressed this perception. As a result, the British government felt compelled to pass the Government of India Act of 1935.
