- Conduction of current takes place due to the movement of the electrons.
- When metal atoms combine with each other, the outermost electrons lose contact with their parent atoms.
- The remaining positively charged atomic centers form an ordered structure while the outer electrons move freely around.
- These freely moving electrons, called conduction electrons, they can carry heat energy and electric charge easily throughout the metal, making metals good conductors of heat and electricity.
- But in case of the non metals, the electrons are held tightly by the nucleus, thus they cannot move easily.

Resistance is the property of an electric path or circuit which resists (stops) the flow of electrons through it.
- In metal conductors, due to a higher number of conduction electrons, the resistance is less when compared to the resistance in non metallic conductors.
- Lesser the resistance, more is the flow of current thorugh a circuit, therefore, metals are good conductors of electricity.
