To reduce the power loss due to  transmission of the current in the wires  AC power system and transformers. are used  a transformer is an electrical component that can convert incoming AC power at one voltage to outgoing power at a different voltage, higher  with only very slight losses. due to which the power loss due to transmission of current are reduced although many home appliances also require dc there we have to convert ac to dc.
