Raja Sawai Jai Singh was the ruler of Amber in the 18^th century. He had a keen interest in astronomy. He built the Jantar Mantar in Delhi, Jaipur, Ujjain, Mathura and Benaras. He also started reforms in preventing evil practices such as sati and female infanticide.
