Who triggered the Moroccan crisis and why

Expert Answer
The Moroccan crisis was triggered by the ambition of France and Germany in controlling Morocco. In 1904, France signed a secret treaty with Spain partitioning Morocco and not to oppose British policies in Egypt in exchange for free hand in Morocco. Germany was unhappy as it wanted an open-door policy in the region. The emperor William II visited Tangier and in 1905, declared for Morocco’s independence. While the German emperor Kaiser promoted the independence of Morocco, the French wanted to dictate Morocco’s governmental structure. This resulted in the Morocco crisis.
