Ammonium oxalate is used to detect Ca2+ ion, they react and gives white ppt of calcium oxalate which inferent that Ca2+ may present.
The reaction occurs:
Ca2+ + (NH4)2C2O4 → CaC2O4
In this way, Ca2+ ion is detected.
