Following factors were responsible for the change in Muslim League’s policies from the year 1910 to 1913:

  1. Britain stood against Turkey in the Turko-Italian War (1911-12) and the Balkan Wars (1912-13). This angered a section of Indian Muslims and they became critical of British policies.
  2. The annulment of the partition of Bengal in 1911 was seen as detrimental to the welfare of Indian Muslims.
  3. The younger section of the League did not agree with the loyalist policies of the Aligarh group and the leadership of the big Nawabs and zamindars.
  4. Some young scholars were influenced by the Deoband school of Muslim studies and hence were inspired by nationalist sentiments. Prominent among these were Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Habibur Rahamn, Hakim Ajmal Khan and Mazhar-ul-Haq.
