Whether light waves can travel through vaccum or not.

Light waves do not need a material medium for their propagation. They are called electromagnetic waves. They can travel even through vacuum. These waves travel at a very high speed of 3×108 m/s in air. They are produced due to varying electric and magnetic fields. These have very high frequency and short wavelength. Their velocities do not change with the change in temperature, humidity, etc.

Whereas sound waves cannot propagate in the absence of a material medium i.e., it needs a material medium for its propagation. These waves cannot travel through vacuum. They are called mechanical waves.
