The Lucknow Pact was signed between the Congress and the Muslim League in the year 1916. According to the Pact, the Congress accepted the concept of communal electorates. Though tactically this was considered as a wise move, since it assimilated the Muslim leadership in the nationalist mainstream, in the long run its impact was negative.
