If there 3 oranges and 2 mangoes then the total outcomes are 3+2=5. Then, using Addition Principle, a person has a choice of 5 selections.
 
If there are 2 major routes from Mumbai to Delhi and 3 major routes from Delhi to Chennai, then using Multiplication Principle, a person has 2*3 = 6 major routes from Mumbai to Chennai.
