When Nitrate ion reacts with con. H2SO4, does it produce Nitrogen dioxide?

Concentrated sulphuric acid is a strong dehydrating agent, it removes water from the nitrate salt and the following reaction occurs,

H subscript 2 S O subscript 4 space space plus space 2 N O subscript 3 space end subscript space rightwards arrow with blank on top space H N O subscript 3 space space plus space S O subscript 4 to the power of blank end subscript to the power of negative 2 end exponent
 
This reaction converts the nitrate into nitric acid, with the help of distillation we can get very pure nitric acid.
