Sher Khan was a powerful Afghan noble who wanted to occupy Delhi and Agra. While returning from Bengal, Sher Khan cut off his line of communication with Agra. In the Battle of Chausa in 1539 CE, Humayun troops were defeated by the sudden attacks of Sher Khan’s army. Later, in the Battle of Kanauj, the Mughal army was defeated again by Sher Khan. Humayun saved his life by jumping into the river. Sher Khan declared himself as the king of Delhi and Agra.
