Different forces acting on a walking man

(i) Gravitational Force W due to man's weight

(ii) Normal force N exerted by ground

(iii) friction force f acting between ground and feet ( or shoe )

(iv) Internal forces IF of body to move legs

(v) air drag force ( negligible )

All the forces except air drag force are required for walking . None of them can be zero.

regarding direction we can assume downward force and force acting in towards left
when man is walking towards right are negative

( for internal forces IF though arrow is shown downward, it may act upward also to move up legs )
