When a body slides down from rest along a smooth inclined plane of angle 45degree with horizontal , it takes T time. When same body slides down a rough inclined plane making same angle & through same distance, It is seens to be taken pT, where p is some number greater than 1. Calculate the coefficient of friction between body and rough plane.
Hi,
Acceleration down the smooth inclined plane will be g sinθ and on the rough inclined plane will be (g sinθ - μ cosθ).
If the length of the inclined plane is l, then
l = 1/2 × (g sinθ) t2 and l = 1/2 × (g sinθ - μ cosθ) × (pt)2
Solving, we get
μ = tanθ (1 - 1/p2)
