Expert Answer
(a) If xylem of the stem is girdled off, the transport of water will not take place. The plant will wilt, it will not be able to prepare food and ultimately it will die.
(b) If phloem of the stem is girdled off, the transport of food will not take place. The stem below the girdle will stop growing. If the stored organic contents of the lower part of the stem are exhausted then the stem may also die.
(b) If phloem of the stem is girdled off, the transport of food will not take place. The stem below the girdle will stop growing. If the stored organic contents of the lower part of the stem are exhausted then the stem may also die.
