Expert Answer
Following were the obstacles o German unification:
- Austria being an old conservative power in Europe refused to give up the leadership of the German Confederation.
- France was extremely cautious about having a stronger and larger Germany lest it became a rival in the balance of power in Europe.
- Groups of German nationalists fought for the emancipation and unification of German lands. However, this was not done under the leadership of a strong state like Prussia.
