One of the immediate challenge that India faced after independence was to give a shape to a nation that was full of diverse culture, traditions, religions and languages. The people in India followed various cultures and spoke different languages. At this time, it was believed and feared that it was difficult to keep the country united due to its diversity. The partition of India almost proved the fears to be right. So the first most challenge for the leaders of the country was to keep the country united and the difficult task was to devise the means to achieve and ensure the territorial integrity of the nation.
