Economy of the Harappan Civilisation
The main occupation of the Harappans was cultivation. Wheat and barley were the main crops. They also domesticated animals. The Harappans were skilled craftspeople and potters. The Harappan economy was based on trade. They traded both within and outside India. They traded with many countries such as Mesoptamia, Persia and Afghanistan.
According to historians, high walls were constructed by the people as they served as retaining walls. The walls also served to enclose – to separate parts of cities from one another possibly for reasons of status or community differences, to keep animals in during the night and protect them and the population from raiders, to protect sites from floods,
