Robert Clive and Mir Jafar (commander-in-chief of Siraj-ud-Daulah’s force) signed a secret treaty. Mir Jafar was bribed with a large sum of money, trading privileges and the promise of being made the next Nawab of Bengal. Hence, he did not take part in the battle.
