Burhan-ul-Malik tried to reduce the Mughal control in Awadh by taking the following steps:
1. Since Burhan-ul-Malik had the subadari, financial and faujdari rights over Awadh, he personally managed the political, financial and military affairs of the state.
2. He tried to minimise Mughal interference in the state by reducing the number of office holders (jagirdars) appointed by the Mughal rulers and placed his own loyal servants in these positions.
