Alauddin took the following steps to protect his empire from the Mongols:

• The forts which were located in the route of the Mongol army were repaired and were placed under the best generals of the army.
• The army was reorganised and strengthened.
• The Mongol leaders who were captured during their attacks on India were killed.
• During the reign of Jalaluddin, those Mongols who had accepted Islam and had settled in Delhi were massacred on a large scale so that they were not able to extend any support to the Mongol army in attacking India.
