ICSE Class 8 Answered
What role did Abraham Lincoln play in the American Civil War?
Asked by Chandrashekhar | 17 Aug, 2018, 06:38: PM
Expert Answer
Abraham Lincoln adopted the policy of ‘power and diplomacy’ to check any internal interference in the American Civil War. The southern states were opposing Lincoln since he was a Republican and the republicans were opposed to slavery. The southern states decided to secede from the Union. This made Lincoln to issue a statement that the immediate aim of America was to protect the Union. This created an emotional wave and confused the southern states who were fighting on the issue of slavery. Later, he played in key role in passage of the Thirteenth Amendment, which ended slavery in America.
