Reforms of Lord Dalhousie:

• Dalhousie annexed several Indian states during his Governor ship. For these newly annexed territories he introduced the centralized control called “Non-Regulation system”. Under this system a commissioner was appointed for a newly acquired territory.
• In the field of military reforms, Dalhousie shifted the headquarters of Bengal Artillery from Calcutta to Meerut. Simla was made the permanent headquarters of the army.
• One of the greatest reforms of Lord Dalhousie was in the field of transport and communication. The first railway ran from Bombay to Thane in 1853. He was known as the father of Indian Railways. The introduction of post and telegraph brought far reaching changes in India’s communication systems.
• Dalhousie accepted the proposals of Charles Wood in education and English was introduced as a medium of education. It was largely due to his efforts that the universities of Calcutta, Madras and Bombay were established.
