CBSE Class 7 Answered

What makes hot air ballon rise?
Asked by Abhinav | 08 Nov, 2016, 09:27: PM
answered-by-expert Expert Answer
  • Hot air has lesser density as compared to that of the cool air.
  • This creates a density gradient (difference) in the atmosphere and in the process of balancing the air density in the atmosphere, the hot air naturally tends to move upwards whereas the cooler air tends to sink downwards near the surface.
  • The above phenomenon is observed even by the hot air that is filled inside a baloon and this is the reason why the hot air baloon rises upwards.
